Professor Mohan Munasinghe was the Vice-Chairman of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and shared the 2007 Nobel Prize with Al Gore for his work on global warming and sustainable development. He is a remarkable physicist, academic and economist with a focus on energy, water resources, sustainable development, and climate change.
Mohan Munasinghe is Founder Chairman of the Munasinghe Inst. of Development (MIND), Colombo, Vice Chair of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-AR4), who shared the 2007 Nobel Prize for Peace, and Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honour - the highest French decoration bestowed on him by the President of France. He is also Chairman, Presidential Expert Commission on Sustainable Sri Lanka 2030 Vision: Distinguished Guest Professor at Peking University, China; and Honorary Senior Advisor to the Government of Sri Lanka.
Mohan Munasinghe has earned postgraduate degrees in engineering, physics and development economics from Cambridge University (UK), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), and McGill University and Concordia University (Canada). Professor Munasinghe has also received several honorary doctorates (honoris causa). Highlights from 40 years of distinguished public service include working as Senior Energy Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka, Advisor to the United States Presidents Council on Environmental Quality (PCEQ), and Senior Advisor/Manager, World Bank.
Mohan Munasinghe has taught as Visiting Professor at several leading universities worldwide, and won many international prizes and medals for his research and its applications. Professor Munasinghe has authored 110 books and over 400 technical papers on economics, sustainable development, climate change, power, energy, water resources, transport, environment, disasters, and information technology. He is a Fellow of several internationally recognized Academies of Science, and serves on the editorial boards of over a dozen professional journals.
Mohan Munasinghe has made numerous speeches at gatherings ranging from high level international conferences to community meetings. He has organized and conducted international training seminars on climate change, sustainable development, environment, economics, energy, transport, water resources, and information technology, in various parts of the world, for thousands of officials and hundreds of corporations.
